The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will relaunch its public health initiative ‘Aapli Chikitsa Yojana,’ a diagnostic tests scheme, across 100 municipal health facilities from August 1, after a gap of seven months, officials said on Thursday. The scheme aims to provide the public with a wide range of blood tests at nominal rates and make diagnostic reports available via WhatsApp, the BMC.
According to the civic body, the scheme, originally launched in 2019, will cover 16 suburban hospitals, 30 maternity homes, five speciality hospitals, Dr R N Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle, Hindu Hridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari, and all municipal dispensaries in Wards A to E. The civic body has set a target to extend the scheme to all its hospitals and dispensaries by August 15, said an officer.
‘Aapli Chikitsa Yojana’ is designed to offer both basic and advanced blood testing services — 66 basic and 17 advanced — through an outsourced model based on recommendations from expert committees and existing practices in state-run facilities.
Lifenity Health was selected as the service provider for the scheme through a tendering process in June. Under the new system, patient test data will be integrated into the Health Management Information System (HMIS), and reports will be directly delivered to patients via WhatsApp, the BMC stated.
