BJP state spokesperson Keshav Upadhye on Wednesday objected to the growing trend of pushing residential projects through ‘halal lifestyle township’ by some developers in Mumbai and its suburbs.
Taking serious objection to promoting housing projects on religious lines, Upadhye said, “Marketing residential properties using religious context is unacceptable. When you mention ‘halal lifestyle township’, it clearly depicts the discriminatory mindset. Such divisive method does not augur well for any society. It promotes division and hatred against each other. It should not be allowed.”
The BJP leader’s response was to a proposed ‘halal lifestyle township’ near Karjat, nearly 100 km from Mumbai.
“We are already dealing with one Pakistan which was an outcome of painful partition. Now we cannot allow seeds of partition to be sown again in the name of religion,” Upadhye said.
Meanwhile, National Human Rights Commission has reportedly taken cognisance of a complaint over the Karjat project and sought a report from the state government. It has also sought a clarification from housing regulator MahaRERA about the legal basis for approving it.
