Zeeshan Siddique, son of slain NCP leader Baba Siddique, on Tuesday said he was “not at all satisfied” with the efforts made by Mumbai Police in getting gangster Anmol Bishnoi extradited to India.
Mumbai Police, in their chargesheet, have named Bishnoi as the mastermind of the murder of Siddique on October 12 last year. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the “casual behaviour” of the police about the case.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Zeeshan said, “We had filed an RTI to find out steps taken by the Mumbai Police for the extradition of Bishnoi, who was detained by US authorities. I visited the office of DCP (crime branch) but I was told no details would be provided to me as it might alert Bishnoi and hamper police efforts.”
“The attitude of the officers seemed casual and they were being sarcastic. It is strange they are not willing to share the progress of the case with me — who is the victim’s son. They have also not been able to track the other two ‘masterminds’ Shubham Lonkar and Zeeshan Akhtar. We are mulling what legal steps can be taken as we are not satisfied at all,” Zeeshan Siddique said.
A Mumbai Police officer said all steps are being taken to track down the accused who are currently on the run. “In Bishnoi’s case, as it is an international matter, things move slowly but all necessary measures have been taken,” he added.
Police have so far arrested 27 people in the case and a chargesheet filed. Bishnoi, Lonkar and Akhtar have been named as wanted accused in the case. The trio have been on the run for nearly a year and are suspected to be in other countries.
