ATS arrests 8 who executed gangsters’ orders from jail

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested eight men who carried out attacks at the behest of Kumar Pillai,Chhota Rajan and Ravi Pujari gangs through their own networks of men equipped with weapons to carry out attacks.

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested eight men who carried out attacks at the behest of Kumar Pillai,Chhota Rajan and Ravi Pujari gangs through their own networks of men equipped with weapons to carry out attacks. What is interesting is that most of the attacks were planned by these men from jail.

Referring to their modus operandi as a “unique arrangement”,ATS chief Rakesh Maria said their method points at a new strategy where “a new group is delegated with an assignment, arranges the weapons and undertakes the shooting for the respective gangs.”

The men would use youths without criminal records as depositories for weapons, another group would work out the networks and the attack would be planned at senior levels.

“They seem to have operated from jail— organising weapons, collecting information, planning and completing the target. We will now have to go back to a whole set of cases where their involvement has been detected,” said Maria. The eight have confessed to involvement in an Ulhasnagar firing,a stabbing at Kalwa, another case in Antop Hill,a Wadala shootout and a 2007 murder. The cops recovered a Webley Scott revolver, three pistols and two hand guns from them besides 14 mobile phones. The main accused Vijay Kedare (37) worked his networks between gangsters like Balu Dhokre and Bunty Pandey. He is a convict who jumped bail. “There seems to be a tacit understanding between the underworld groups. Token amount is collected by these groups and the planning is done efficiently till the target is cleared. We will open a lot of old cases once they are interrogated,” said Maria. The accused have been remanded till March 11.
