The wife of Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal — Anita Goyal — died in a Mumbai hospital on Thursday, after a battle with cancer. She was 70 years old.
Naresh Goyal, who was jailed in a money laundering case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), was granted by the Bombay High Court on May 6, for two months on humanitarian grounds. He had cited his wife’s critical health condition and submitted that both he and his wife were suffering from terminal cancer.
“Applicant be released on bail for a limited period of two months to avail treatment for cancer… and attend to his wife, who is also suffering from cancer of an advanced grade,” the court had said in its order.
The HC had said that it was justified to grant temporary bail to septuagenarian Naresh in view of his ailments and “the situation in life brought about by the life threatening disease the wife of the applicant is suffering from”.
Anita was granted bail in November 2023, after she appeared before a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in response to summons issued to her.
Anita, who was the director of Jet Airways, was named by the ED as an accused along with five others in its prosecution complaint (chargesheet) filed in October 2023.
