The 14-year-old son of a Gujarati television serial actress allegedly died by suicide in Mumbai’s Kandivali on Wednesday evening.

He was the only child of his mother, who divorced her husband a few years ago. According to sources, he died by suicide after his mother insisted that he attend a tuition class despite his reluctance.

“One of the residents of the building informed the boy’s mother that a boy had died by suicide. She was shocked to discover that it was her son,” said a police officer at the Kandivali police station.

“So far, we have not come across anything that points towards any foul play. But as there is no witness to the suicide incident, we are probing the matter from all possible angles,” said Ravi Adane, Senior Inspector, Kandivali police station.

Sources said the police may ask the boy’s friends in school and tuition classes about his mental condition in the last few days.

As part of the probe, the police are likely to inquire why the boy was trying to avoid tuition classes, an officer said.

The police have registered an accidental death report in the case.
