Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu Thursday threatened fast unto death if his partyâs government fails to make public the report on the drug menace submitted to the high court by a special task force (STF), the attack coming just days after he, in a display of unity, for the first time shared stage with Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi at a public meeting.
âJje eh report na kholi Punjab sarkaar ne, taan eh Navjot Sidhu apni deh daav de utey laau, maran vrat tey utter jau. (If the Punjab government does not make the STF report public, then Sidhu will put his life at stake and proceed on fast unto death),â Sidhu announced at a gathering in Mogaâs Baghapurana.
Channi was also present on the stage.
The PCC chief, however, did not set a deadline for the government to fulfill the demand.
Addressing the event, Sidhu said, âLakhs of mothers lost their sons to drugs. An elderly man told me that his grandson ruined his life due to drugs and said that I must get justice for such familiesâŚThere is no court order which bars making the report public. Who stops you from making it public,â Sidhu asked.
âPeople need to know why the former CM kept sitting on this report. They should know why former home minister kept sleeping,â he added.
Sidhu also once again questioned the state government over the steps taken for ensuring justice in the sacrilege cases. âSidhu is again seeking justice for sacrilege,â he said.
The STF report in question was submitted by in a sealed cover to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Sidhu, on the past too had targeted the Congress government in state, demanding that the report be made public and a time-bound investigation be initiated to catch the âbig fish responsible for narco-terrorismâ.
âHonâble HC supplied a copy of STF report on drugs to the government. But instead of proceeding as per law, we are sitting on the STF report since February 2018. Even we have failed to extradite the other accused in this multi-crore drugs case. The solution is to catch and punish the big fish,â he had said.
