Comrade Jagjit Singh dies at 96

Comrade Jagjit Singh Lyallpuri,national general secretary of MCPI(United),on Tuesday passed away after a brief illness.

Comrade Jagjit Singh Lyallpuri,national general secretary of MCPI(United),on Tuesday passed away after a brief illness. He was 96.

Lyallpuri is survived by three sons,Dr Navdeep Khaira,Dr Jagdeep Khaira and Col Sudeep Singh. Of the three,two sons Jagdeep and Sudeep are settled abroad. Therefore,cremation will take place after their arrival.

Comrade Lyallpuri was a freedom fighter and had been sentenced to jail in the Independence struggle. Even after Independence,he remained in jail from 1948 to 1951 when the MCPI had been declared illegal. He was at the forefront in issues related to students,farmers and many other things,said Kuldeep Singh,state general secretary of the MCPI(United).
