Senior BJP leader and member of the party’s State Committee Balram ji Das Tandon today opposed free being supplied to the farmers across Punjab. He was addressing a conclave organised by Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal this afternoon.

Tandon said that providing subsidies to the farmers worth Rs 6,000 crores was not justified and it should be withdrawn. He said,“The government should start giving cash subsidies to small farmers instead.” Although the BJP leaders could not do anything regarding the e-TRIP system introduced by the state government,Tandon today again extended the support of the BJP to the traders and stated that they had already opposed it at the Core Committee meeting. Interestingly,Tandon stated that common man would have to fight for getting their demands implemented.

He stated that giving subsidies and collecting taxes don’t match and would hamper the development of the state. Expressing his views,BJP MP Avinash Rai Khanna said that traders and the industrialists had to fight on three fronts for getting their demands accepted at the government end.

He added that trade and industry had to fight politically and legally, besides following the path of agitation. He asked trade and industry leaders to fight for their cause, assuring that the BJP was with them. Khanna said that nobody could call the traders “chor” (thief). He said that if the state government wanted to further enhance its revenue collection, then it should identify fresh tax payers.

Rather,he opined that the government should appreciate the high tax paying traders and industrialists.

Khanna was here referring to the remarks of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal where he had dubbed traders thieves in the Assembly.
