It’s celebration time at the houses of Jagmeet Singh and Manpreet Kaur, the two city-based youths who made it to the PCS (Judicial) results of which were announced on Sunday.
Jagmeet Singh, who did his schooling from Guru Nanak Public School and pursued law at the University Institute of Legal Studies,Panjab University, realised his dream in the first attempt. My father practises law in the city and I too was pursuing the same. However, during my law days, the ambition to become a judge began to grow inside me and I started preparing for the exam. My luck and hard work clicked just right and I made it in the very first attempt, says the 24-year-old youth who is fond of bhangra and other extra-curricular activities.
After taking over as a judge,Jagmeet says I want to work for society. My work as a judge will be for the good of society, he adds.
However, for Manpreet Kaur, the dream has come true after four years of struggle and despair. While pursuing my dream to become a judge,I completed my LLB,LLM and am currently doing PhD in law. The fact that I am finally a judge has not sunk in,and all the people around me seem to be making the reality even more unbelievable. Honestly,I am yet to congratulate myself.
Manpreet does not want to comment on the existing judicial system, for it would be unfair. It makes no sense to make lofty statements. I want to become a part of the system first and only then will I make any comment. Even then I would rather prefer to correct the system instead of finding faults in the system, she says.
