The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday announced an eight-point manifesto for the Dhupguri by-election that will be held on September 5, along with six Assembly constituencies in five states.

The bypoll to the constituency in Jalpaiguri district was necessitated by the death of BJP MLA Bishnupada Roy on July 25.

The ruling party’s promises include the creation of Dhupguri sub-division “by submitting a proposal to the state government for better development of the area” and the upgradation of the Dhupguri rural hospital with specialised medical services, adequate equipment, and better healthcare professionals.

Also, the party announced to make roads in the constituency pothole-free, complete the construction of 97 km of roads, and provide clean-piped water supply.

Besides, it assured to identify a dumping ground and ensure a scientific approach to waste disposal after dialogue with municipal authorities and stakeholders.

It promised to set up regulated markets where potato and jute farmers can sell their produce at fair prices and to institutionalise dairy businesses through farmer-producer organisations and cooperatives.
