In chargesheet, CBI traces the movement of accused hours before crime

The RG Kar Hospital rape and murder accused Sanjay Roy went drinking, visited red light areas and made several rounds of the hospital, the CBI has said in its chargesheet, it is learnt.

According to the chargesheet filed before a court on Monday, the CBI, sources said, identified Roy from a CCTV footage from the trauma centre and pulmonary medicine department on the day the rape and murder of a junior doctor at the hospital.

Significantly, several of the allegations made in the chargesheet have already been made by the Kolkata Police, which was investigating the case before the CBI took over the case in August.

The CBI is learnt to have claimed that the CCTV footage showed him entering the building with his earphones on in the early hours of August 9 and is purportedly seen leaving the building at 3.30 am without it. Significantly, authorities claim that the victim was strangled to death and a pair of the earphones were found at the crime scene.

Roy and another civic volunteer allegedly made several rounds of the hospital on August 8 to help a cop’s family members who were admitted there. They eventually drank and went to the Chetla red light area, the CBI has claimed, adding that the other civic volunteer went inside with a sex worker, but Roy did not. Both allegedly returned to RG Kar at around 3.20 am.
