A massive pothole developed near a metro pillar close to Jaipur Railway Station on Monday.

The collapse occurred within the jurisdiction of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (Heritage), where officials rushed to manage the scene and divert traffic before any major disaster took place.

This is not an isolated incident. Over the past three days, several potholes have developed along the same stretch, highlighting the city’s recurring battle with sinking roads every monsoon. But this particular cave-in has laid bare the deeper issue — administrative neglect.

Sources within JMC Heritage, speaking to The Indian Express on condition of anonymity, blamed a choked sewer line for the collapse. Repair efforts are reportedly underway.

BJP’s Civil Lines MLA Gopal Sharma, however, blamed the officials for not doing their work properly before the rains. He visited the spot on Monday and said, “Sewer cleaning is our top priority, but officials did not perform their duties. I asked the question in Vidhan Sabha regarding the sewer cleaning and municipal corporation officials assured that sewer lines are being changed. But nothing has happened. They lied in the Assembly. Jaipur roads have become dangerous for people to commute. Officials guilty of this neglect should be held accountable.”

With one massive pothole and two smaller ones already formed, the road has been turned into a one-way route — causing major traffic snarls in the area.
