ABVP,SFI members clash at HPU campus,police called in

Representatives of ABVP and SFI clashed over distribution of pamphlets at the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) campus.

Representatives of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Students Federation of India (SFI) clashed over distribution of pamphlets at the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) campus on Wednesday.

Police had to be called in to control the clash,which left a dozen students injured.

Hours after the clash,Vice-Chancellor (V-C) A D N Bajpai announced that elections to the much-awaited Students Central Association of the university and other 97 affiliated colleges in the state will be held on August 20.

While appealing to the students to maintain peace on the campus,Bajpai threatened to take strict action against anti-social elements. “If needed,the university will take strong steps to curb the incidents of violence and disturbance,” he said.

The polls

* Filing of nomination papers will start on August 18 at 12.30 pm and list of the candidates will be displayed the same day at 2 pm.

* nominations can be withdrawn by 4 pm on August 18,following which,the final list of the candidates will be released.

* Voting will be held between 9.30 am to 2 pm on August 20,which will be followed by declaration of results from 3 pm.
