For months, a 21-year-old man had been struggling. He had broken up with his girlfriend, said police.
On Sunday night, he reached out to his sister over a video call. The two got into an argument. Police said he told her, “Meri girlfriend ne break-up kar liya hai. Woh meri baat nahi maan rahi (My girlfriend has broken up with me. She isn’t listening to me).”
Moments later — still on the video call — he allegedly jumped off the DND Flyway into the Yamuna River, police said.
The man has not been found yet.
“Local police officers, as well as a PCR van, reached the bridge, where they found a motorcycle and a mobile phone at the spot. The caller — the man’s sister — also arrived,” an officer said.
Police also alerted the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the fire department, and other emergency services. A motorboat team of the NDRF arrived within 15 minutes and launched a search operation.
A fire tender and a team from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) also arrived at the spot.
The search and rescue operation continued all night, but with no success. A missing person’s complaint has been registered at the Sunlight Colony police station, officers said.
During their inquiry, the woman told police that her brother had been living with her at her Karol Bagh residence for a few months and was looking for a job. “Her brother had broken up with his girlfriend. On the night of the incident, he made a video call to his sister. They had an argument. Frustrated, he jumped off the bridge,” an officer said.
