Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has directed the chief secretary to furnish a report on several allegations levelled by Congress leader Ajay Maken of “extravagant and obscure expenditure”, environmental damage and violations related to heritage, among others, in connection to the renovation and construction activity at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Civil Lines residence. Saxena directed that the report be submitted to him within seven days.

Alleging exorbitant spending on the “new CM House”, Maken had, in a complaint to Saxena on Monday, alleged that its construction had “cost the exchequer around Rs. 171 crores” which included the relocation of 22 officers’ bungalows in its vicinity, of which 15, which were adjacent to Kejriwal’s residence at Flagstaff Road, were demolished or vacated.

To compensate for the resulting shortage in government housing, the former Union minister alleged, an expenditure of Rs 126 crore had been made on the purchase of 21 “new Type 5 flats in CWG Village”.

The residence, Maken further sought to argue, had been constructed in the Civil Lines Old Bungalow Zone which was an area protected under the Master Plan for Delhi 2021, contradicting many of its provisions, in addition to the removal of 28 full-grown trees, which was also a violation of the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994.

“Work orders were seemingly split by PWD to keep them below Rs. 10 crores, with the intent to avoid approval of the Secretary/Principal Secretary, PWD,” Maken had claimed, further questioning a lack of concurrence from the finance department for the purchase of fixtures and furniture installed at it.

“In light of these concerns…I request you to conduct an inquiry on the above points. And if found guilty, grant sanction for prosecution of the principal beneficiary, the chief minister, and the principal perpetrator, the PWD Minister of GNCTD,” Maken had added.

For addition to this please: “Everyone knows that this is a false case meant to tarnish the image of Kejriwal ji. Ajay Maken’s complaint shows that BJP and Congress are both together and working against AAP. Ajay Maken is a puppet of BJP in Delhi. What does congress have to say about 2000 cr liquor scam in Chhattisgarh?” the AAP said in response to the development.
