Almost a decade after their visas expired, two alleged Bangladeshi nationals living in the capital were arrested by Delhi Police from South Delhi’s Mahipalpur area on Saturday.

The police said the duo–Shishir Hubert Rozario, 35, and Mohd Tauhidur Rahman, 33–were handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).

A team led by Inspector Vijay Baliyan, in charge of the Special Staff Team of South West Delhi, had received information about them, the police said.

“Information was received by the team regarding some illegal Bangladeshi migrants seeking accommodation in Mahipalpur. Acting swiftly on this input, the team approached the suspected individuals, asked for identification documents, and conducted a thorough inquiry,” said Amit Goel, DCP (South West).

When asked for documents, the duo weren’t able to show any legitimate ones, the police said. The only one they had was their visas, both of which expired long back.

“They admitted to being illegal Bangladeshi migrants who had entered India before 11 years and that their visas had expired. After a thorough verification and inquiry, the necessary legal formalities were completed, leading to the initiation of their deportation through the Foreigners Regional Registration Office, New Delhi,” DCP Goel said.

The police said Rosario was from Bangladesh’s Ghazipur district as per his passport and was working in Delhi as a manual labourer. Rahman hails from the Cox Bazaar area and was previously deported in 2020, when he was found illegally residing in Gurgaon, according to the police.
