Two boys, aged 11 and 12, drowned in a canal in Northwest Delhi’s Bharat Nagar, police said.

One of the boys was a Class 6 student and the other was in Class 5, police said, adding that both lived in Wazirpur JJ Colony.

“The police control room (PCR) received a call on Saturday regarding the two boys who had allegedly gone missing.” DCP (North West) Bhisham Singh said.

Police said that the caller — the mother of one of the boys — said that her son had been missing since 6 pm on Friday.

“When a police team was scanning the CCTV camera footage, officers were informed that the bodies of two children were spotted floating in a canal near JJ colony in Wazirpur,” DCP Singh said.

Officers also said that the depth of the water in the canal was 15-20 feet.

According to the police, a case has been registered.

“The bodies were recovered with the help of local divers. It was found that they were the missing children,” DCP Singh said.
