A day after a 19-year-old youth was allegedly stabbed to death and his cousin grievously injured in South Delhi’s Khirki Extension, four juveniles — all aged between 15 and 17 — were apprehended early on Sunday, police said. According to the police, after the attack, the accused had robbed a delivery boy in the area before fleeing on a stolen scooter.

The juveniles, police said, have multiple cases against them.

They were also booked in two cases of murder and robbery, police added.

“The accused suspected that the deceased was close to their rival gang. The deceased also allegedly passed some lewd comments on one of the accused,” a police officer said, adding that there was a “social media spat” between the two sides.

The first call to the police control room (PCR) was made at 2.08 am from Khirki Extension’s J Block, and the caller informed officers that two youths were lying on the street, bleeding heavily from stab wounds.

While a team from Malviya Nagar police station was dispatched to the spot, a second PCR call came in from Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital at 2.25 am, informing that one of the victims had been brought dead, officers said. He was identified as Vivek (19), who lived with his family in Khirki Extension.

Meanwhile, Vivek’s cousin Aman (21), a resident of Gupta Colony in Khirki Extension, was admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre with stab injuries, said police. Around half-an-hour later, at 2.53 am, another PCR call was received from JD Block, police said. The caller reported spotting four accused armed with knives, their hands stained with blood. The group had allegedly robbed a scooter from a delivery boy while attempting to flee, said an officer.

Police said that initial probe and CCTV camera footage showed that the same four assailants were involved in both incidents. “The footage showed them moving around the area armed with knives and attacking the two youths,” said an officer.

While Vivek worked at an eatery in Malviya Nagar, Aman was employed at a café at DLF Select City Mall in Saket.

Police also said that Vivek’s family originally hails from Agra and his father works as a security guard in Delhi. Aman’s father, meanwhile, has passed away, and he lives with his mother, a homemaker.
