The Delhi Police Tuesday filed a 500-page chargesheet against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar in the alleged assault case of AAP Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal. At the same time, a Delhi court extended Kumar’s judicial custody till July 30.
Around 50 persons questioned by the police were made witnesses. The chargesheet was filed under sections 354 (use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to disrobe her), 354B (using criminal force intending to outrage the modesty of a woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (using words, gestures or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 201 (causing the disappearance of evidence), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
In her complaint, based on which the Delhi Police registered an FIR against Kumar and arrested him, Maliwal alleged that he had slapped her seven-eight times, “kicked her on the chest, stomach and pelvis area”, and threatened that she would be killed during her visit to the CM’s house on May 13.
Kumar was picked up by the Delhi Police on May 18 from Kejriwal’s official residence at Civil Lines. He was placed under arrest when his anticipatory bail plea was being heard at Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court.
In its remand application, the Delhi Police had earlier alleged that a pen drive that was provided to them which was supposed to contain CCTV footage from May 13 — when the alleged assault took place at Kejriwal’s residence — was empty.
