A Delhi court is set to hear on Thursday a plea moved by a landlord seeking the release of his house, where 27-year-old Shraddha Walkar was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala in 2022.
In an application dated February 27, moved before Additional Sessions Judge Manisha Khurana Kakkar of Saket court, the landlord had prayed for the release of his first-floor flat in Mehrauli’s Chattarpur Pahadi in South Delhi.
Poonawala (28) is accused of killing Walkar and chopping her body into multiple pieces on the night of May 18 inside the house at Chattarpur Pahadi.
In the plea, the landlord has sought that his house — currently in the possession of Delhi Police — be returned to him, as evidence has already been gathered from the flat. He has also submitted that the trial was in the final stages.
The police, meanwhile, have opposed the plea. “It is submitted that granting such a request… would not only be unjust and unwarranted at this stage of trial but may also be prejudicial for the case of the prosecution,” stated the reply of the Delhi Police, represented by special public prosecutors Amit Prasad and Madhukar Pandey.
