The Supreme Court Friday agreed to hear a PIL,asking for the court to monitor the excavation work being undertaken by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in quest of a hidden treasure of gold in UPs Unnao district.
A Bench of Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam and Justice Ranjan Gogoi said the petition would be taken up for consideration Monday if all the defects in it are removed. The plea has been moved by advocate M L Sharma, who mentioned the matter and sought urgent hearing on the ground that precious things being excavated could vanish in absence of proper supervision.
The Bench, however, pointed out to Sharma that they have gone through his petition and even UP and ASI were not made parties in his petition. The court asked him to remove such defects to enable its listing on Monday.
A 12-member ASI team started digging in Unnao district at the instance of Shobhan Sarkar,a seer, who claimed to have dreamt that gold was there.
