Satisfied with way police handled AAP protest: SC

The court disposed of a PIL, saying it was “satisfied” with the actions taken and that no further orders were required to be passed in this matter.

The Delhi Police received a shot in the arm on Friday with the Supreme Court approving its “swift” and “balanced” action during the recent protest by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his ministers outside Rail Bhawan in Central Delhi violating prohibitory orders.

A bench of  Justices R M Lodha and S K Singh gave a clean chit to police for acting in a due manner and not remaining “lax and dormant” in handling protesters, who had refused to disperse despite warnings.

The court disposed of a PIL, saying it was “satisfied” with the actions taken and that no further orders were required to be passed in this matter.

The court’s observation comes as a relief for the Delhi police commissioner, who was asked to explain why he had allowed Kejriwal to gather in large numbers in the heart of capital despite prohibitory orders being in place.
