Actor playing Lord Ram in Ramlila suffers cardiac arrest on stage in Delhi, dies

A man died from a cardiac arrest while performing the role of Lord Ram in a Ramlila in East Delhi’s Vishwakarma Nagar on Saturday evening, the police said.

A video taken at the Ramlila performance shows the deceased actor, Sushil Kaushik, 45, getting restless while delivering a dialogue. Dressed in a golden and blue costume, Kaushik, a property dealer, then moves behind a prop on the stage and collapses.

The police said they received information about an actor collapsing on stage at 9 pm on Saturday.

“A police team reached the spot alongside an ambulance and the man was rushed to a hospital in Anand Vihar, where he was declared dead on arrival,” said a senior police official.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s nephew posted on X, “With profound sorrow, we inform you that my beloved Chachaji, Shri Sushil Kaushik, passed away… due to a sudden cardiac arrest. Chachaji had been portraying the character of Shri Ram… with the Jai Shri Ramleela Committee, Vishwakarma Nagar. Last night, while performing his cherished role of Shri Ram on stage, he experienced sudden heart pain and later peacefully merged with Shri Ram…”
