After several students of class 11 and 12 “ignored” warnings to cut their hair properly, a teacher at a private school in Noida decided to don the role of a barber instead — a move that has cost her her job.
On Thursday, parents of students studying at Shanti International School in Sector 168 complained to the school administration and staged a protest outside the campus, following which the teacher’s services were terminated.
School chairman Harish Chauhan said the teacher was only trying to maintain discipline. “It was not her intention to hurt anybody’s feelings. As she was the ‘discipline in-charge’, she chopped the hair of some students of class 11 and 12 as a nominal punishment. But the parents did not take it well and they came to school in the morning… We apologised to all of them and have terminated (the services of) the teacher,” said Chauhan.
He also said such things will not be repeated. “We are a reputed institution. We take care of children very well and this will not be repeated again,” said the chairman.
Police, meanwhile, said they received information of the incident.
“We got the information today that a school teacher had cut the hair of 10-12 students on Wednesday. A police team went to school and inquired into the matter. The school decided to terminate the teacher from services,” said Shakti Mohan Avasthy, Noida’s Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police.
He further said, “As per our information, the teacher had told the children to cut their hair, but, due to some reason, some students did not do so. She cut (part of) their hair so they would get a proper haircut. Both sides have reached an agreement and there is no complaint. Further legal action is being taken.”
