Days after a 26-year-old man was shot dead inside a Burger King outlet in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden, the Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested one of the accused persons who brought the two shooters to the spot.
On June 18 at 9.30 pm, three persons came on a bike to the outlet on Najafgarh Road, Rajouri Garden. “One person remained outside with the bike to act as a lookout and act as their backup, armed with a weapon. The other two went inside and fired 39 rounds at the victim, Aman Joon, who later died on the spot,” said a police officer.
Gangster Himanshu Bhau, on an Instagram post, claimed responsibility for the incident as revenge for killing ‘Shakti Dada’, one of his close associates, police said.
A team of the Special Cell’s Northern region was formed and the three accused were identified as Ashish, Vikas and Bijender.
For their arrest, a team raided their suspected hideouts in Haryana, Rajasthan, UP and Punjab. Said Additional CP (Special Cell) Pramod Khushwaha, “On some occasions, the culprits narrowly escaped being apprehended but the teams kept tracking their movements through sources and technical surveillance.”
After 10 days, on June 28, based on a specific input, Bijender, 27, was arrested from Rohini, said police.
Bijender, police said, studied till Class IX from a government school and has previously been involved in five cases of murder, attempt to murder and under the Arms Act.
Police said Bijender claimed Aman’s murder was pre-planned on Bhau’s direction. On the day of the incident, he claimed, as instructed by a gang member, Bijender was equipped with a pistol and reached near a metro pillar at Rajouri Garden on a motorcycle. The other associates, Ashish and Vikas, also got there. Sticking to the plan, the three drove to Burger King.
“Bijender was instructed to remain alert on the bike, with the engine on and with a backup weapon, while and Ashish and Vikas went inside. After the murder, the trio fled on the bike,” said police.
