In a push for sustainable urban development, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and District Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya on Thursday directed Sohna civic body officials to draft a plan for a waste-to-wonder park.

The aim is to transform waste into an attractive public space while promoting recycling and enhancing civic amenities, he said during a virtual monthly review meeting of the civic bodies in the district. The meeting focused on reviewing progress in development projects, cleanliness drives, and civic services — with the commissioner issuing key instructions.

“Dahiya emphasised that the proposed waste-to-wonder park in Sohna would promote waste recycling and provide an appealing public space for residents. He also stressed on wrapping up preparations for tenders related to door-to-door waste collection and road sweeping, prioritising high-quality services for long-term public benefit. He clarified that payments for sanitation work would only be processed through the Solid Waste Management Monitoring Portal,” an MCG spokesperson said.

The commissioner also reviewed improvements in Material Recovery Facility centers, waste collection, secondary collection points, public toilets, footpaths, and green belts. Noting that the MCG now has 80 assistant sanitation inspectors, he said this has strengthened waste collection, cleanliness, and enforcement activities.

Ahead of the upcoming Swachh Survekshan survey, Dahiya instructed officials to expedite preparations, ensure timely document uploads, and align ground-level work with required standards.

He also said that data on ragpickers should be prepared and that they should be deployed at secondary collection points, promoting waste segregation and processing, and covering secondary waste collection points. Agencies should be provided a conducive environment for efficient work, he added.

Highlighting the scope for improvement in horticulture, Dahiya urged officials to develop plans to make green belts and parks more appealing and lush. Reviewing the Haryana City Cleanliness Campaign and Swachhta Hi Seva initiative, he directed intense awareness campaigns in schools, markets, and public places.

Dahiya also emphasised accelerating the distribution of pending property certificates, assigning patwaris, ZTOs, and clerks to the task. He stressed timely resolution of claims and objections under the property tax schemes, warning against delaying, rejecting, or reverting files without valid reasons.
