Dirty politics… people are watching, will respond: CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sisodia arrest

Before his arrest, Sisodia had appealed to his supporters and the people of Delhi to "take care of his wife" since she is unwell.

“Patriots are being arrested, while those who loot the country are allowed to go scot-free” — this was the message that Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal sent out as he tore into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Centre following his deputy Manish Sisodia’s arrest on Sunday evening.

“Manish is innocent. His arrest is dirty politics. There is a lot of anger among the people over his arrest. Everyone is watching. People understand everything. They will respond to this. This will boost our spirits further. Our struggle will only get stronger,” Kejriwal tweeted.

The Delhi CM, his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha and Delhi MLA Atishi also visited Sisodia’s Mathura Road residence in the evening to meet his mother and wife. Before his arrest, Sisodia had appealed to his supporters and the people of Delhi to “take care of his wife” since she is unwell.

Outside Sisodia’s house, Kejriwal said, “Manish Sisodiaji has been framed and arrested in a false case. He is an honest deshbhakt [patriot] and a courageous person. He worked 24/7 and dedicated his time to the country and its people. In the 75 years of Independence, he was the first minister who gave hope to the poor. Hope that a rickshawallah and an autowallah can provide good education to their children and they can become engineers and doctors. He changed the face of education in Delhi. Manish is an innocent person but he has been arrested today. The entire country is watching.”

Accusing the BJP of letting people who were actually corrupt get away scot-free, the AAP national convener continued, “Today we are clearly witnessing how innocent, patriotic and honest people are being arrested and put behind bars for doing good work, but those who are scamming [the country] in billions and trillions, those who have looted the country and escaped, are their [the BJP’s] friends. They don’t take action against them, they are roaming freely. They [BJP] don’t even have the guts to issue notices to them because they are their friends.”

Talking about Sisodia’s family, Kejriwal said, “Mannsahab and I just met his wife and mother. His wife has multiple sclerosis, where the brain’s control on the body slowly reduces. His son is in Canada. Manishji used to take care of her but we have assured him that we will take care of his family. We told his wife that they don’t have to worry; we will take care of them and that the country is proud of him.”

Mann, meanwhile, said the BJP arrested Sisodia because his education revolution threatened to put an end to its “vendetta politics”.

“It is written on many walls in schools that once you build schools for the young generation, you won’t need jails for the older one. But today we are seeing an anomaly, where the person who is building schools is being sent to jail in a completely fabricated case … They know that once this current generation is educated, it will lead to the downfall of their vendetta politics,” he said.
