Within six hours after a 26-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly during a quarrel in Outer North Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar on Friday night, the police arrested three persons early Saturday in connection with the incident.
Police said the incident took place near the entry gate picket on Lower GTK Road around 8.30 pm, when Khadda Colony resident Devender was attacked allegedly by four men he knew.
Local residents rushed Devender to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital, where he was declared dead. Police said they were informed of the incident around 11.40 pm when they received a call from the hospital.
A case of murder under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Swaroop Nagar police station.
Police said CCTV camera footage, statements of eyewitnesses and technical surveillance pointed to the involvement of four men — Pawan, Vikas, Avinash and Rohit — all residents of the same locality.
Raids were conducted at multiple locations and Rohit, Avinash and Pawan were arrested. Police said a blood-stained knife, identified as the murder weapon, was recovered from Pawan, along with the clothes worn during the incident. These have been sent for forensic examination.
“The arrested men, who work as daily wage labourers, have no significant criminal record,” said an officer, adding that efforts are on to trace Vikas.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami said, “Three of the accused have been arrested within six hours of the incident. Probe is on to trace the remaining accused.”
