A 15-year-old girl allegedly brought to Gurgaon from Jharkhand four months ago was found wandering on the streets and rescued. She said she had run away from the house she was employed in as a domestic help, after she was “abused”.
Child Welfare Committee (CWC) officials said they suspect it to be a case of trafficking. Although officials said no instance of sexual assault or violence has come to light so far, the girl has claimed an elderly relative of her employer would “talk about dirty things” to her. “He would ask me every day if I was on my period. I used to stay alone with him all day and he took advantage of it.” she told the CWC.
On October 4, when the man started abusing her, she fled the house. She was picked up by personnel from the Civil Lines police station and taken to the CWC. The child told CWC that she was brought to Gurgaon by a man she referred to as “Brijesh bhaiya”, who lived close to her home in Gumla district. She said she was not paid for her work.
“The girl could not say where her employer’s residence is or even details of her home. This appears to be a case of trafficking,” said Shakuntala Dhull, chairperson, CWC, Gurgaon.
Officials added that a woman claiming to be her mother had come to them on Wednesday morning, along with a male relative. She had alleged that the girl had disappeared from their home four months ago, and they had no idea of her whereabouts. Since their claims could not be verified, they were not allowed to meet the girl.
Dhull said they are recommending that the Jharkhand Police take up the probe. The girl has been sent to a child protection home for now, officials added.
