A four-year-old girl abducted from Gurgaon railway station was rescued within 50 hours by the Haryana Railway Police, who reunited her with her family at Pilibhit railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.

The incident was reported on September 16, when an unidentified person allegedly drugged a man at the station and abducted his daughter.

“Upon receiving the report, Railway Superintendent of Police Nitika Gehlot prioritised the case, directing Deputy Superintendent of Police (Faridabad) Rajesh Kumar to lead the operation. Kumar formed 18 teams, each with three members, including cyber experts and officers skilled in analysing CCTV footage,” an official said.

The police reviewed CCTV footage from Gurgaon to Anand Vihar railway station, and shared suspect images with the Railway Protection Force and other units. Teams were dispatched to Kotputli and Alwar in Rajasthan, and Bareilly and Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh.

At Pilibhit railway station, the suspect, allegedly sensing police presence, abandoned the child and fled. “The police secured the girl, conducted a medical examination, and handed her over to her family, who expressed relief and gratitude,” the official added.

Taxi and auto drivers at Gurgaon railway station provided assistance, the police said, adding that the technical surveillance team played a key role in tracking the suspect.

In the past month, the Haryana Railway Police has rescued 24 children from illegal transport via trains and reunited 23 others found separated on platforms or trains with their families. Additionally, 11 suicide attempts on railway tracks were prevented, the police said.

In July, the Gurgaon police rescued a six-year-old boy and arrested two people, including a woman, for allegedly kidnapping him. Officers said the mother-son duo confessed that they were planning to sell the boy to a wealthy childless couple for a hefty sum. The police had said the accused had lured the boy with toffees before abducting him and taking him to Agra to sell him.
