Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority and Municipal Corporation tie up to solve monsoon woes

In a bid to fast-track critical projects in the city and resolve citizens’ grievances, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority and Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon have joined hands. The city’s two agencies held a joint meeting of their engineering wings chaired by the GMDA CEO P C Meena, wherein the directions to fast-track critical projects of civic infrastructure development were issued to officers.

On the work of connection of the internal drainage network from Dundahera to the master storm drain Leg 1 being undertaken by MCG, the CEO said that pending work be completed to address waterlogging concerns and barricade open portion of the drains during monsoon.

Meena laid stress on better coordination between the two agencies for resolving issues. Instructing that tenders of Operation & Maintenance of infrastructure projects related to drainage, sewage and water supply are prioritised and expedited, he told officials to ensure that the respective networks are working at their optimum capacities.

Similarly, to address waterlogging at sector 66/67 near Asnsal Essencia which floods during the monsoon due to water down from the neighbouring Ramgarh village, MCG will develop a pump house in the society to help drain out storm water for the benefit of the residents. Regarding Sector 54, Krishna Chowk, Rezangla Chowk, Sector 23, sector 14 and others which flood frequently during the season, CEO Meena outlined that necessary planning and solution-oriented results are to be explored. Stressing on the matter of sewage overflow in the sectors during monsoon, he said sewer connections made with the master drain network must be identified and strictly dealt with.

To ensure a smooth and adequate supply of water in the city, GMDA and MCG are to carry regular checks for illegal connections on their master water supply line. Boosting stations under MCG not working at their full capacity will be checked by officers and rectified.

GMDA team submitted that encroachments at Creek 1 are to be cleared and widening of the drain near Shiv Nadar school is to be carried out by MCG. CEO GMDA issued instructions that the encroachments may be cleared and demarcation be done to take up further development of the creek. He also outlined that water bodies, in association with RWAs and corporates, may be explored as these water bodies can work as reservoirs during the rainy season as well as recharge the groundwater.
