The Aam Aadmi Party declared that it will present a report card on the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) first 100 days in power in Delhi.
The BJP formed a government in Delhi after nearly 27 years, defeating the AAP, which had held power for a decade. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and her Cabinet of Ministers took oath on February 20 in a grand ceremony attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Ramlila Maidan.
While the AAP is planning to present the government’s failures on numerous fronts like power, water, education, and drainage, the BJP is also going to hold a grand event — to present its report card — at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on May 31.
“The BJP came to power in Delhi riding on tall promises, but a 100 days into its rule, it has delivered little more than disappointment,” AAP’s Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, said in a statement.
Sharing an image titled ‘100 Days: Report Card Fail’ on X, Atishi said the Rekha Gupta-led government has let down the people of Delhi at every step. “The BJP’s 100-day mark is around the corner, and it is clear they have failed spectacularly on all counts,” she said, announcing that AAP will release a detailed report card on Friday.
In a similar social media post, AAP’s National Media In-Charge Anurag Dhanda appealed to Delhi residents to send in their suggestions for the report card.
AAP accused the BJP of bringing pain and suffering to the residents of the national capital. “Delhiites have been subjected to long and frequent power cuts. In contrast, when AAP was in power, Delhi enjoyed 24×7 electricity at the most affordable rates… private schools under the BJP regime have increased fees arbitrarily,” the AAP said.
The party further claimed that the water crisis has worsened under the BJP government. Several areas are receiving contaminated water.
AAP also highlighted the non-delivery of the Rs 2,500 dole for women. “During the elections, the BJP had promised to transfer Rs 2,500 per month to every woman in Delhi and to pass this scheme in the first Cabinet meeting. But women are still waiting for the money to be credited into their accounts…,” the party said.
Responding to the AAP’s claims, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said, “The AAP leadership clearly sees that the public is highly impressed with the BJP government’s proactive approach to solving issues. That’s why AAP leaders are now making baseless statements about electricity and water shortages in an attempt to stay relevant.”
He said there is no major shortage of electricity or water in Delhi.
