Free electricity, water subsidies to continue if BJP comes to power in Delhi: MP Ramvir Bidhuri

The party also announced that during this campaign, it will tell people that ongoing public welfare schemes — free electricity, free bus tickets for women, and water subsidies — will continue, even if the BJP comes to power.

To seek suggestions from the public before preparing its manifesto for the 2025 polls, the Delhi BJP Monday announced that it would launch a campaign called ‘Meri Dilli Mera Sankalp BJP’. The party also announced that during this campaign, it will tell people that ongoing public welfare schemes — free electricity, free bus tickets for women, and water subsidies — will continue, even if the BJP comes to power.

South Delhi BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, convener of the manifesto committee, said the party has started work on the document. Addressing a press conference, along with Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and other members of the committee, he said, “The party has decided that all public welfare schemes like electricity and water subsidies and free transportation for women will continue. Once it comes to power, the BJP will deliver it better than before and extend it to new sections of the public.”

Earlier, BJP leaders called subsidy schemes being provided by the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi “free ki revdi”.

On the change in stance, BJP officials said, “In the last two elections, we realised free public welfare schemes played a major role and AAP gained popularity because of that… People in Delhi vote for BJP in the Lok Sabha polls but for AAP in the assembly polls. Why? Because people do not care about central schemes or national security during assembly polls. ”

“The AAP is also telling the people that if the BJP comes to power, it will stop all schemes… The BJP will prove the AAP wrong,” they added.

Another BJP official said the party will announce its own public welfare schemes along with several other promises.

The campaign will start from December 7, while public meetings will begin from Thursday. The party will send two video vans with suggestion boxes to each parliamentary constituency along with a team of committee members. It will later discuss the suggestions received and add them to its manifesto. “People can also submit their suggestions to us via the email ID —MeriDelhiMeraSankalpBJP@gmail.com and WhatsApp number 9958702025,” said the party.

Reacting to the BJP, the AAP said: “Even if the BJP mistakenly comes to power in Delhi, they will first end free electricity and free bus travel for women… The BJP has previously opposed both these schemes of the AAP government and has been unable to provide free electricity and free bus travel in any of the 20 states they govern. We will continue to give revdis to Delhiites.”
