Days after three masked men allegedly fired more than two dozen shots outside the house of YouTuber Elvish Yadav in Gurgaon, his father said Tuesday they would breathe easy only after the attackers are arrested.
At least four policemen have been stationed outside and around Elvish Yadav’s house in Gurgaon’s Sector 56 after the firing incident Sunday morning. On Monday, the 27-year-old YouTuber posted on Instagram that he and his family are safe.
When asked if he feels safe, Ram Avtar said, “Thoda toh dar abhi bhi hai. Kabhi bhi vapas aa sakte hain. Us waqt hum jag rahe the (We are still scared. The shooters may come back anytime. We were awake at the time).”
While Elvish Yadav is rarely at the Gurgaon home because of his work, his parents said they have not asked him not to visit. “Ek hi toh ghar hai, itni mehnat se banaya hai. Usko thodi bolenge ki hotel mein ruko (There is only one house, it has been built with so much hard work. We cannot tell him to stay in a hotel)”.
The 50-year-old said he is hopeful that the police will give them some information about the shooters soon. “Tabhi pata lagega kaun tha, phir thoda surakshit mehsoos hoga (Only then will we know who was responsible, and can feel safe)”.
Vinod Kumar, Station House Officer, Sector 56 Police Station, Monday told The Indian Express that the suspects are likely to be nabbed in a day or two.
The Gurgaon police said no one was injured in the firing, even as the bullets fired by the assailants hit the first floor and stilt area of the three-storey residential building Sunday morning, as captured on CCTV. The 27-year-old was not at home when the incident happened.
Hours after the incident, Himanshu Bhau gang, via a post on Instagram, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying Elvish Yadav was targeted for promoting betting platforms.
The police lodged an FIR on charges of attempt to murder, criminal acts by multiple accused with common intention, and offences under the Arms Act.
The attack marked the second such incident in recent weeks targeting celebrities popular among the city’s youth.
Last month, singer and rapper Rahul Fazilpuria allegedly came under fire near the Southern Peripheral Road in Sector 71. He escaped unhurt after the assailants, driving in a car, opened fire as he stood beside his SUV.
