A massive fire broke out on the sixth floor of Ansal Plaza, a commercial building in South Delhi’s Bhikaji Cama Place, on Tuesday around 7.15 pm. Fifteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took them half-an-hour to douse the flames. No casualty was, however, reported, police said.
According to the Fire department, a man spotted smoke coming out of the windows of the highrise and called fire services. Since the fire station is located close-by, fire tenders reached the place within minutes. Local police and officials from the disaster management authority also reached the spot.
Even though it was well past office hours and most occupants had left the premises, people stuck inside panicked and started running downstairs the moment the fire alarm went on. A senior police officer said, “The fire broke out a little after 7 pm and all the occupants on the floor started running downstairs. No one was injured, though four persons were trapped and had to be rescued by firemen. Neighbouring buildings were also evacuated as a precautionary measure.”

The four persons, who were rescued by fire fighters using highrise ladders, were rushed to hospital. They were discharged after first-aid.
Sagar, who works in the building, said, “The guard in the building alerted everyone about the fire. The moment we stepped out of office, we saw smoke all over. The lifts were shut so we rushed towards the staircase. We heard people shouting for help as they could not come down because of the smoke. It was becoming difficult to breathe.”
