Ghaziabad man beaten over tabeez he sold to the accused, say cops; 2 more held

“Main accused Parvesh was present with Kallu, Poli, Aarif, Adil and Mushahid when the victim met them in Loni’s Baheta area. The accused and the victim were known to each other as Saifi had sold them an amulet, promising them positive results. The amulet did not work, and the accused beat him up in anger. While two more persons have been arrested, the others will be caught soon,” said Ghaziabad Police in a statement.

Police said Saifi was known to sell amulets in Loni village.

The family of one of the accused denied the police allegation. “My brother Aarif knows Pravesh and others since they go to the same gym. On the day of the incident, Aarif was somewhere else when he got a call from Pravesh, who said a fight had happened. Aarif called Adil and others, who tried to resolve the matter. The elderly man then left. It was his issue with Pravesh… So Pravesh and his other friends decided to take up the matter with him,” claimed Sarfaraz, Aarif’s cousin.

Police however maintained that all the accused were present and had taken part in the assault. “All of the accused were known to Saifi as he had sold amulets to many people in the area. First, the victim did not reveal true facts about how he met them, since we found during investigation that he knew them from before. Second, the details about the assault were also not clear since the issue was about the amulets. The complaint also did not mention any chants of Jai Shri Ram. We have identified eight accused. More arrests will take place,” said Dr Iraj Raja, SP Rural Ghaziabad.
