The Jyoti Nagar police station in Delhi was alerted about the woman’s death after a crowd spotted her body on the road. A mobile phone was discovered in her pocket. As the police said were trying to identifying the woman, the cellphone rang and a family member identified the deceased as Shivani (30).
The relative also told the police that her husband Vijay Pratap Chauhan (30) has also died by suicide at their Ghaziabad home.
According to the police, the couple was married for two years and had a one-year-old daughter.
On Friday, the couple had a raucous fight, which escalated into an exchange of blows, the officer added. “The husband apparently called his sister-in-law and told her he couldn’t bear it any longer. He asked her to take his wife away,” the officer further said.
Following this, Shivani stormed out of the house and called her brother once she reached Saboli Fatak. The brother asked her to wait for him to get her, the police said. Meanwhile, Vijay called Shivani, threatening to die by suicide, they added.

After a few minutes, around 4 pm, the police received a call from Vijay’s neighbours stating that his body has been found at his rented accommodation at Jawahar Nagar in Ghaziabad’s Loni border, Assisstant Commissioner of Police (Ankur Vihar), Bhaskar Verma said.
“After reaching the spot, the police team found that the neighbours had already laid Chauhan’s body on the ground in an attempt to revive him,” he added.
After Vijay’s death, Chauhan’s aunt Meera Sharma began to look for Shivani and then called her to say that Vijay was unwell, said police. “Since Vijay had threatened to die by suicide, Shivani grew suspicious. Perhaps acting on impulse, she hanged herself too,” said Verma.
The family, meanwhile, kept calling her and one of the calls were picked up by the Jyoti Nagar police officers when they were trying to identify Shivani’s body.

While Vijay’s body was taken to the district hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead, Shivani’s body was shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The couple’s one-year-old daughter was handed over to Vijay’s family, said Delhi Police. A native of Virad Gadiya village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district, Vijay worked in a finance company, Verma said.
