The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday released another video featuring its Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal being escorted out of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence by a group of security officers. The video was purportedly taken on the day Maliwal was allegedly assaulted by Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar.
In her FIR against Kumar, Maliwal has alleged that she was slapped seven or eight times, “kicked on the chest, stomach and pelvis area”, and was threatened that she would be killed.
AAP posted the latest video on X along with another video purportedly showing Maliwal walking inside Tees Hazari Court. “The video exposes the truth behind Swati Maliwal’s allegations,” AAP said in the post in Hindi. Raising questions about Maliwal’s allegations, AAP said that unlike at court on Friday, when Maliwal walked out of Kejriwal’s house, she was “fine”.
Meanwhile, AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi said on Saturday that the BJP was using Maliwal as a “pawn during the elections”. “She was in touch with BJP leaders. If Delhi Police conducts an impartial investigation in this case, everything will become clear,” Atishi said.
The controversy over Maliwal’s allegations has put AAP on the backfoot amidst the Lok Sabha elections. According to Maliwal’s FIR, she visited Kejriwal’s Civil Lines residence on May 13 where she called and messaged Kumar, but could not reach him. As she waited for the CM in the drawing room, Kumar “suddenly barged in, screamed at her without provocation and abused her”, before allegedly assaulting her, the FIR stated. Kumar has also filed an FIR against Maliwal in the case.
