‘AAP lost credibility because it didn’t do what it promised’: BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay 

Malviya Nagar’s residents have raised the issue of a water crisis among other things… We will definitely address the water issue. But, along with this, there are other major issues such as roads in need of re-carpeting, sanitation, maintenance of parks… the sewage system has collapsed… These are some of the local issues and grievances of people, which I will take up after taking oath… It is my priority that we have to change the whole system. We will resolve all grievances of the people…

The BJP is going to form a government in Delhi after 27 years? Will the party ensure the representation of minorities and women in its Cabinet?

… I am not the right person to answer this question. It is the decision of the top leadership… It is important that everyone is equally represented and the party will keep this in mind and take care of everyone.

Why do you think AAP lost?

Because of lies and corruption… all their MLAs were criminals… The CM, former Deputy CM, and MLAs were arrested and jailed… They only abused the central government, the Prime Minister and Lieutenant Governor… The AAP’s credibility was completely gone because it didn’t do what it promised. It focused on everything — from politics to blame game — except governance. During the Covid pandemic, instead of caring about the people and fulfilling his duties as CM, he (Kejriwal) built a ‘Sheesh Mahal’ for himself. So, if a party loses its credibility, people will vote you out of power.

We believe in working for the people… Like Modi ji says, sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas, sabka prayas… Modi ji’s guarantees are popular not only across the country but the world… People realised the truth and chose a double-engine sarkarthis time. They want a vision for Delhi and development.

You were NDMC vice-chairman and Arvind Kejriwal was a member of the Council. How was the equation between the two of you?

He never came to meetings and even if he did, he used to leave immediately… He never did anything in the New Delhi area or NDMC… Neither Delhi nor the NDMC were his priority… that is why he never attended any meetings…

With your administrative experience, do you think you will be the new CM?

Not at all… You should not ask me this question… Iski mujhe koi discussion ki bhi jarurat nahi hai…

What will the BJP’s first 100 days be like?

Shandaar hoga… The government will be formed and MLAs will take oath… After that, as the Prime Minister said, cleaning the Yamuna and welfare schemes for people will be our priority.

The BJP manifesto promised to deploy Anti-Romeo squads to check sexual harassment. Do you think this is good for a city like Delhi?

Our sankalp patra (manifesto) talks about every issue… When the government is formed… issues to be prioritised will be decided and we will implement them accordingly.
