AAP alleges ‘vote chori’, says names of non-BJP voters deleted before 2025 Delhi polls

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said former Delhi CM Atishi had raised the issue of ‘vote chori’ much before the Congress.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj Friday alleged that ‘vote chori’ (election fraud) was done in the Delhi Assembly elections held in February this year. The former Delhi minister claimed that thousands of names were deleted from the voter list in the run-up to the polls, especially in the New Delhi Assembly constituency, which was then represented by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal.

“After the summary revision of the 2025 Delhi elections completed in October 2024, by then in the New Delhi constituency, the number of voters had already been reduced from 1,48,000 to 1,06,000,” he said during a press conference held at the party office.

Bharadwaj claimed that much before the Congress raised the issue of vote theft, former Delhi chief minister Atishi had submitted a letter to the then chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar on January 5, questioning the 6,166 voter deletion requests received for the New Delhi constituency.

From October 29 to December 15, 2,776 such applications were received. On December 16, 34 applications were filed, followed by 298 on December 17. The numbers recorded were 1,103 on December 24, 982 on December 25, and 989 on December 26, he added.

Holding up a list containing names, Bharadwaj said, “The people who sent applications to delete names of voters have denied doing so, and the majority of names proposed for deletion are of those who are still staying here.”

The AAP leader stated that the January 5 letter called for “criminal investigation… in cases of fraudulent identities being used for voter deletion.”

Bharadwaj added that Atishi and Kejriwal had submitted another letter on the issue to the CEC on January 9.

Later, the AAP leader also posted a copy on his X handle of the Election Commission’s reply to the Right To Information (RTI) query posed by the party following the January 9 letter over the ‘deletion of names’.

“The vote chori took place through fraud and impersonation to delete non-BJP voters’ names,” he said.

Kejriwal lost the New Delhi seat to his BJP rival by a little more than 4,000 votes.
