A seven-year-old boy died as he fell into an open drain while running after a kite in North East Delhi’s Welcome area, the police said Saturday. His body was recovered Saturday morning following a search.
The accident occurred Friday evening near Lakdi Market Puliya, when the boy, who was playing outdoors, slipped into the drain while trying to grab a kite, said the police. “A team immediately reached the spot after receiving information. Efforts were made to trace the boy, but the search had to be paused due to darkness,” said a senior police officer.
The operation resumed Saturday with additional personnel, including members of the fire department and divers. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was also roped in, and measures such as temporarily blocking the water flow in parts of the drain were taken to aid
the search.
By late morning, the child’s body was retrieved and shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The police said they have informed his family and are providing them with assistance.
