Four people have been arrested days after two men were allegedly gunned down in the Harsh Vihar area of Northeast Delhi, the police said on Monday.

“The team led by Nand Nagri Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Surender Singh Rathi worked diligently, developed intelligence through various sources, and arrested Chetanya Tomar, 18, Pradeep Bhati, 22, Pawan Bhati, 24, and Pramod, 25, on the basis of the leads gathered,” said Ashish Mishra, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Northeast Delhi.

According to the police, two men were killed in Pratap Nagar on Friday evening after assailants opened fire at them in a residential lane. When the police reached the spot, they learnt that the victims — Sudhir Kumar, 35, and his friend Radhey Prajapati, 30 — had been rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital by their families. Both men later died during the treatment, officers added.

Sudhir’s brother Ajay Kumar said that they were all sitting in his mobile phone shop when the incident occurred. “My brother and his friend were sitting here… my mother was lying on the diwan, my younger brother was here too. The assailants suddenly came and shot at the two men. One fell inside my shop and the other outside, in the parking area,” Kumar told reporters.

A case was subsequently registered under sections 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Arms Act, at Harsh Vihar police station.

The police said the accused Pradeep and Pawan are brothers and had previous enmity with the deceased. Pawan was earlier involved in nine criminal cases, including attempted murder and robbery, they stated.

Sudhir’s mother claimed that the deceased had an altercation with three of the accused a couple of days before the murder, and they were threatened by the accused.
