Even as the search operations crossed 24 hours, the rescue team is continuing its efforts to locate the boy who fell into an open sewer in Southwest Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area on Thursday afternoon, officials said on Friday.
The Delhi Police said that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) divers are continuing their search as there is a possibility that the boy could still be alive. The police force and the Delhi Fire Services team are also currently at the spot, assisting in the rescue mission, said an officer.
According to the police, a few local children saw the boy falling into an open drain in Southwest Delhi’s Rajokri, and the police were alerted at 1.24 pm.
The Delhi Fire Services has sent one fire tender and four fire staff members, said an officer, adding that an earthmover is removing the sewage material and clearing the sewage chamber.
The police, who are yet to receive any details of the missing child, said that they are trying to trace his family members.
A Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) team, including a person in charge and three divers, is also at the spot to assist in the rescue operations. Additionally, officials from the Municipal Corpo, along with four sanitation workers, were deployed to help.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Amit Goel said that police are yet to register a case, and an investigation has begun.
