Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) National Executive Member Indresh Kumar on Wednesday addressed a gathering of the Muslim Rashtriya Manch in Ekta Nagar in Narmada district and said that in wake of the hijab controversy, the country needed a common dress code to inculcate a feeling of “oneness” among the children
Addressing a gathering of members of the Muslim Rashtriya Manch, Kumar said that the recent controversy over wearing hijab to schools and colleges was an “attempted move” to disrupt the education of girls.
“We wear different dresses as per the occasions; we dress in one way when we are doing household chores, an another for going out to a market or office. We pick a different dress for happy and sad occasions accordingly… Those who wanted to disrupt the education of daughters and disturb the unity of the country, they tried to play with the future of the girl child. I don’t know if you are standing with that zulm (injustice) or with the real Islam and humanity… Only you know this,” Kumar told the gathering.
Reciting a verse of the Holy Quran in Arabic, Kumar explained his point about respecting people’s “system of life”.
Kumar said, “We need a common dress code for promoting brotherhood and oneness…Holy Quran says that everyone has their own deen (system of life)… one must not interfere in another persons’ deen (custom) and don’t criticise someone’s deen… walk on your own deen and participate in another persons’ deen and you will become a great person…”
Kumar said that the uniform civil code will prevent further division of society in the country. He said, “A king’s son will wear expensive clothes and then India will be divided into a rich and poor society… If we wear dresses according to our caste and religion, we will sow seeds of hatred within the communities as well…. then there will be dress codes of Shias and Sunnis and thereafter the (other) sub-sects. That is why the children must be raised to believe that we are one country — watan hamara Hindustan aur hum Hindustani.”
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Kumar also spoke about the controversy over the film “The Kashmir Files”.
Kumar said, “I am a witness to the incidents shown in the film The Kashmir Files… There is a need to come to a realisation about the issue because it is the truth. It should be seen as a lesson to realise and not to criticize. There were people who made Kashmiris kill other Kashmiris and tainted the essence of Kashmiriyat. There is no need for terrorism but there is a need for oneness… Those who commit crimes — they could be of any religion or political party — they turn into shaitan (devils).”
