Commenting over actor Darshan Thoogudeepa’s arrest in connection with a murder case for the first time, Kannada film star Kiccha Sudeep said on Sunday the family of the victim deserves justice.

Darshan Thoogudeepa, Pavithra Gowda, and 11 others were arrested on June 11 in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga. The police have said Renukaswamy, 33, was murdered because he had allegedly sent abusive messages to Pavithra Gowda on Instagram. Later, the police arrested four others in the murder case. All accused are presently in police custody.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Kiccha Sudeep, once a friend of Darshan’s, said he was only aware of what has been shown in the media. “The family deserves justice and the girl (Renukaswamy’s wife) and the unborn child deserve justice. Above all, everyone should have faith in justice and I believe the police, and it looks like the media, is also working hard to uncover the truth,” he said.

Contemporary actors in Karnataka, Kiccha Sudeep and Darshan were once friends. Later, they parted ways amid several developments in the industry. An online war between the fans of Sudeep and Darshan has prevailed over the years.

Stating it would be wrong on his part to comment, Sudeep said, “I will not speak on behalf or against them (the accused including Darshan). The court will decide who the culprit is and we should accept them and we cannot be judges”.

Reacting to the demand for a ban on Darshan from the Kannada film industry, Sudeep said justice is more important.

S Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), who is overseeing the investigation, announced the arrest of Raju alias Dhanraj on Monday. Raju was named as the accused number nine in the first remand application submitted by the police to the magistrate. With this, the number of arrests in the case has gone up to 17.
