A teacher was suspended for allegedly turning a blind eye to mass copying at an exam room on the first day of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations in Karnataka on Monday.
The chief invigilator found the invigilator facilitating mass copying during the exam at the Government (Boys) PU College at Hunasagi in Yadgir district and reported the matter.
“Upon reviewing the CCTV footage from room 11, we observed students involved in cheating while the invigilator turned a blind eye. Sahebagowda Ukkali, an assistant teacher from Government Higher Primary School, Yevur, Surpur, has been suspended,” said the order issued by the deputy director of public instruction.
The teacher was suspended pending departmental inquiry under Section 10 of the Karnataka Public Service Rules, 1957.
Another incident of exam malpractice was reported from Vijayapura district and the officials concerned were asked to file a report.
The first day of the SSLC exams registered an attendance of 98.41%.
It may be recalled that a man, Kailash, was arrested last week after he assaulted a police constable as he was prevented from helping his sister copy in a pre-university examination in Kalaburagi district.
