Suraj Revanna, brother of Prajwal, booked for sexual assault of man

The Holenarasipura Rural Police Saturday registered the sexual assault case under IPC Sections 377 (carnal intercourse against the order of nature), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506 (intentional insult to provoke breach of the peace) and 34 (common intention). Police have named both Suraj Revanna and Shivakumar as the accused in this case.

Before filing the case, the victim had also written a complaint to the state’s Home Minister and Director General of Police.

According to the FIR, seen by The Indian Express, the victim allegedly visited Suraj Revanna at a farmhouse in Holenarasipura taluk of Hassan district at around 6.15 pm on 16 June.

The complainant alleged that the MLC stripped and sexually assaulted him, and threatened to kill his family.

The complainant also alleged that Suraj Revanna assured him of a job and political growth. “I informed Shivakumar about the incident and said I will fight for justice. Later, Shivakumar offered me `2 crore to not reveal the information. However, fearing getting killed, I came to Bengaluru on Wednesday. I am ready to provide evidence for these allegations,” he said in his complaint.

Based on Shivakumar’s complaint on Friday, police have registered a case under IPC Sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (involvement of others in the conspiracy) against the alleged victim.

Suraj and Prajwal are the sons of JD(S) MLA H D Revanna and Bhavani Revanna, herself accused of abducting one of Prajwal’s alleged sexual assault victims. Their grandfather is former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and their uncle is Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

Prajwal Revanna, a former JD(S) MP from Hassan, has been arrested in three sexual assault cases.
