Phase-I of the multi-modal transport hub (MMTH) near Terminal 2 of the Bengaluru airport started functioning on Friday.
The hub has been set up to integrate multiple modes of transport like bus, cab, and metro train under one roof. The MMTH also consists of multi-level parking and an AC lounge to enable a smooth and hassle-free experience for passengers.
Following the development, the BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) and the KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) have started their Vayu Vajra and Fly Bus services, respectively, from the MMTH.
The buses arriving at the airport will first drop off passengers at Terminal 1 before reaching the MMTH, which is the new terminal point for Vayu Vajra services.
At present, the BMTC is operating 137 Vayu Vajra ‘schedules’ on 18 routes and 944 single trips. On average, 14,000 passengers use these services daily.
The KSRTC operates intercity Fly Bus services to destinations like Mysuru, Kundapura (via Udupi, Mangaluru), and Madikeri (via Mysuru and Kushalnagar).
Meanwhile, Phase-2 of the hub will connect the under-construction KIA Terminal Metro Station (KR-Puram-Hebbal-KIA Metro stretch) with the airport.
