Mandya Congress candidate Star Chandru has Rs 267-crore assets; Mysuru titular king Wadiyar has no immovable assets

Venkataramane Gowda aka Star Chandru, the Congress candidate in Mandya, is among the richest candidates to file nomination papers for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka. The total worth of assets declared by the businessman is Rs 267.05 crore. His wife Kusuma has movable and immovable properties worth Rs 329.32 crore, according to an affidavit filed on Monday.

On the other hand, the 32-year-old titular king of Mysuru, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, who has been fielded by the BJP in the Mysore-Kodagu constituency, has only movable assets, primarily in the form gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs 3.39 crore.

The total worth of Gowda’s movable assets is Rs 29.94 crore. While he does not own any agricultural land, the value of other properties owned by him is Rs 237.11 crore. Of the Rs 182.33 crore’s worth of movable assets of Kusuma, assets worth Rs 176.44 crore are in the form of investments in Star Infratech, a firm run by Gowda. She also owns 4.2 kg of gold worth Rs 2.29 crore. Gowda has a liability of Rs 15.66 crore.

According to his affidavit, Wadiyar resides at F-1, The Palace Mysore, known as the Amba Vilas Palace, a popular tourist destination in Mysuru. He was adopted by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar in 2015, after which he became the custodian of the Wadiyar family. He married Trishika Kumari Devi of the Dungarpur royal family of Rajasthan in 2016.

Wadiyar has declared total assets worth Rs 4.99 crore, while his wife is worth Rs 1.09 crore. Neither he nor Trishika owns any immovable assets, as per the affidavit. Wadiyar’s assets worth Rs 3.39 crore is in the form of gold and silver ornaments, while Trishika has ornaments worth Rs 1.02 crore. They have no liabilities.

Other candidates with deep pockets include Raksha Ramaiah, the Congress candidate in Chikkaballapur. The son of former minister M R Seetharam has declared assets worth Rs 82.83 crore, of which assets worth Rs 54.98 crore are movable. Bangalore Central BJP candidate PC Mohan has assets worth Rs 29.64 crore and his wife Shyla has assets worth Rs 26.60 crore.

Karnataka’s 28 Lok Sabha constituencies will go to the polls in two phases, on April 26 and May 7.
